Kursk region is situated between 50°54' and 52°26' of northern latitude and 34°05' 38°31' of east lothian. Extreme northern point is situated in Zheleznogorsk area, south point in Belaya area, western in R ylsk area, eastern in Kastornoe area.
Kursk Region borderes on Bryansk region in the north-west, on Oryol region in the north, on Lipetsk region in the north-east, on Voronezh region in the east, on Belgorod region of Russian Federation in the south, in the south-western and western side it is adjacent to Sumy region of Ukraine.
The region's territory lies in the south-western slopes of Central Russian Upland, its hilly surface is raised above the sea level at 177-225 m and strongly divided by river valleys, numerous gullies and ravines.
